Choosing equipment by industry

The equipment used to move a powder is often similar from one plant to the next, but the requirements around it are not. Food production asks for cleanable, hygienic contact surfaces. Battery material lines ask for contamination control and low-velocity transfer. Pharmaceutical finishing areas ask for contained, documented changeover. The six sectors below group those requirements so you can start from the one closest to your process.

Each industry page describes the materials typically handled, the problems that come up most often, and the equipment CYprocess normally supplies for that duty - intake, conveying, storage, dosing, packing and dust control. Where a material sits between two sectors, it is usually the flow behaviour and the hygiene requirement that decide which equipment suits it.

Common to every sector

• Enclosed transfer from intake to packing, so powder is not left open in the workplace.
• Extraction and filtration at every point where material is tipped, filled or packed.
• Equipment sized on the material bulk density and flow behaviour rather than on a nominal figure.
• Layout drawings and utility requirements issued before manufacture, so the line fits the building.
