Working principle
A steel frame guides a flat gate plate across the opening. The actuator — handwheel, air cylinder, electric push rod or electro-hydraulic unit — drives the plate horizontally to open or close the orifice. Single- or double-layer plates and round or square flanges match the hopper or duct connection.
Size and duty
Common openings run from about Ø200 to Ø800, or the equivalent square size. Carbon-steel frames and plates are standard, with stainless or lined builds for corrosive or abrasive ash. Gates are widely used under dust-collector hoppers, mills, kilns and storage silos, often as the maintenance isolation above a discharge device.
