Shaftless Screw Conveyor

CYprocess shaftless screw conveyors — also called spindleless conveyors or shaftless augers — move sticky, stringy and compactible materials through a lined trough with no centre pipe. With only one spiral coil doing the work, there is no shaft for material to build up on.

Overview

About Shaftless Screw Conveyor

How this equipment works in powder handling lines and what to consider when selecting it.

Working principle

A heavy-gauge spiral coil runs the full length of a steel trough lined with low-friction liner strips. Because there is no centre tube, the coil bears directly on the liners and the effective filling cross-section is larger than in a shafted screw of the same size. Material is pushed along as one continuous bed, which keeps fibrous and sticky products moving instead of winding around a shaft.

Options and integration

Liner material, coil thickness and trough cover are selected from the material and the duty. Troughs can be dust-tight for powders or open with drainage for wet cake, and horizontal, inclined and bent layouts are combined to follow the plant route. Discharge gates, breakers and load cells can be added at the outlet.

Features

Key Features

Design points that make the Shaftless Screw Conveyor practical for industrial powder plants.

No centre pipe — nothing for sticky or stringy material to wrap around
Large effective filling cross-section in a compact trough
Horizontal, inclined and 3D-bent layouts in one conveyor
Replaceable low-friction liner strips protect the trough
Fully enclosed cover with inspection ports for dusty products
Heavy-gauge spiral for sludge, filter cake and compactible waste
Standard models from 100 to 300 mm spiral diameter

Materials

Suitable Materials

Powder and granule categories typically specified with a shaftless screw conveyor. Suitability is confirmed per project from bulk density, particle size, moisture and process conditions.

Wet cake & sludge

filter cake, dewatered sludge, gypsum paste

Sticky powders

titanium dioxide paste, pigment filter cake

Fibrous material

fibre waste, biomass, baghouse fines

Food residues

peelings, pomace, wet spent grain

Compactible waste

powder bags' rejects, mixed dry waste

Applications

Process Applications

Process points where this equipment is typically installed, from bulk intake through to packing.

Filter cake and sludge from dewatering units
Sticky and moist powders that bridge in shafted screws
Fibrous and stringy by-products
Compactible waste and bag-house discharge
Food processing residues and biomass
Chemical paste-like intermediates
Inclined transfer where a shafted screw would clog

FAQ

Shaftless Screw Conveyor FAQ

Common questions about selection, integration and quotation.

When the material is sticky, stringy or wet enough to build up on a centre pipe and hanger bearings. Removing the shaft eliminates the two places where such products normally clog, and the larger filling section lets a smaller conveyor carry the same rate.
